Walkable spots

Flora Gallery & Coffee Shop sits a few blocks up Royal, open from 6:30 in the morning until midnight, seven days a week. It's a genuine neighborhood room — piano in the back that anyone can play, a resident cat, mismatched tables full of people actually talking to each other. Good coffee, better cinnamon rolls, and the kind of place you end up staying longer than you meant to.

The Orange Couch is a block down Royal, open seven till six every day. Bright, modern, and a little unexpected inside a historic cottage — good espresso, flaky handpies, gelato, and a case of mochi in flavors worth a detour. Dogs welcome, solid Wi-Fi, shaded seating out front. And yes, there is an orange couch

Who Dat Coffee Cafe is around the corner on Burgundy, doing breakfast and brunch from seven until two — closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Corn cakes with egg wash and bacon, the best chai a lot of people say they've had, and a cottage full of regulars who've been coming a decade. Dogs and kids both welcome. Worth the short walk.

Anna's is directly across the corner from Flora, open until two most nights and noon on weekends. Pool table, upstairs event space, and a rotating cast of food pop-ups renting the kitchen — birria ramen one week, tacos the next. Locals will tell you it's the spot in the Marigny, and they're not wrong on Mardi Gras day. Anna's is one of several bars you can walk to.

Washington Square is a few blocks up Royal at Elysian Fields — a full block of live oaks, crepe myrtles, and open lawn with a small playground on one side. Good for letting kids run, walking a dog, or sitting in the shade with a coffee. Best in daylight hours; the gates close at seven.

Crescent Park is a five-minute walk toward the river — a mile-and-a-half of paved path running along the Mississippi from the Marigny into the Bywater. Wildflower meadows, old wharves, picnic tables, and the best unobstructed view of the river and skyline in the city. Little shade, so go early or late. Open six to seven-thirty.
